CEAT Women's Program
Female engineers, architects and technologists are heavily recruited. Industry executives recognize the importance of diversity and the strengths that women contribute to their companies. Project teams that are more diverse also are more successful. You can help develop unique products and put new spins on old ideas.

Women in Engineering, Architecture and Technology can choose to make their home in Allen Hall, affectionately known as Maude's Quad. Maude Spear was the first woman to graduate in engineering from Oklahoma A&M University in 1915. Maude studied architectural engineering, and according to her biography was determined to rise to the top in her profession. She also was the only female member of the Senior Engineering Club.
Maude was a very skilled and spirited young woman. In 2005, as a tribute to Maude and her individualism and determination, Maude’s Quad was established. As women continue to blaze trails in the male-dominated engineering fields, OSU chooses to remember Maude and the path that she set forth.
The cooperative effort between Residential Life and the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology is designed to enrich the first-year experience and provide a bond between the students, their academic advisor, faculty members, and residence area coordinator. Current programming components include the living community, career exploration and course clustering.
Participants have made the following comments about Maude’s Quad:
- “The thing I liked the best about Maude's Quad was the fact that I didn't have to start off college alone, I had a group of girls going through the same thing that I could turn to for help.”
- “It is easiest to keep focus on your work goals when those around you have engineering study habits like you do. Maude’s Quad contributes to developing good habits!”
- “Because our schedules were coordinated to share similar classes, we were able to help each other with sharing notes, completing homework assignments, & preparing for exams.”
- “I honestly wouldn't be an engineer right now if it wasn't for this program.”
- “Maude’s Quad definitely helped make the transition into college life much easier. I didn't know anyone and this program helped me meet people and become really good friends with them.”
- “Maude's Quad allowed me to interact with engineers across several disciplines of engineering, including my roommate for the next two years!”
